Our goal is to inspire everyday community members and empower them to get involved in local organizing already happening to eliminate police and policing in Los Angeles. There will be free food, live music, family activities, and the following featured speakers:
Gina Viola, Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate
Taina Angeli Vargas, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Initiate Justice
Angelica Duenas, Candidate for Congressional Seat 29
Al Corado, Co-founder of People’s City Council and Co-host of 818s & Heartbreak Podcast
Yazmin Monét Watkins, member of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles
“The first Night Out for Safety and Liberation was launched by the Ella Baker Center in Oakland, CA in 2013 as an alternative to the more police-centric National Night Out, which pushes a narrative of "police-community partnerships" as the pathway to community safety.” -The Ella Baker Center. We will continue the tradition of highlighting the voices in this fight and providing space to come together.
The Valley Justice Collective is a grassroots organization that prioritizes community collaboration in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Our work centers on the holistic view of justice, considering the intersections of identities, cultures, and knowledge-base.
West Valley People’s Alliance builds intersectional people power to address the social, economic, and environmental inequities impacting the communities of the West San Fernando Valley.
Angelica Dueñas is running as a progressive Democrat against the corporately funded incumbent in California’s 29th Congressional District, located in the East San Fernando Valley.
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights organizes with Black, Brown, and low-income people to shift resources away from prisons and punishment and towards opportunities that make our communities safe, healthy, and strong.
